The Talking Oaks was co-founded by educators and parents - Yeoh Xiao Yun and Yap Su Wei with a shared passion for transforming literacy education. We recognized the need for a more engaging and effective approach to teaching reading.
OUR STORY
Inspired by our commitment to supporting learners with diverse learning needs, we developed a unique, research-based approach that fosters reading proficiency in every child. ​

MEET THE TEAM

YEOH XIAO YUN
Co-founder
The Talking Oaks is led by co-founder Yeoh Xiao Yun, an experienced educator and passionate mother of four neurodivergent children, dedicated to making literacy accessible and joyful for all. With over a decade of teaching experience, she has helped more than 200 children overcome significant challenges such as dyslexia and ADHD. Her expertise is grounded in qualifications in Learning Disorder Management, Child Psychology, and Early Childhood Care & Education. She is also a qualified Orton-Gillingham practitioner and holds credentials in Phonics and Phonetics instruction, with a strong focus on evidence-based, early childhood literacy.

YAP SU WEI
Co-founder
As Co-Founder and Strategic Lead, Yap Su Wei architects the strategies that drive awareness about neurodiversity and also, serving the deep need for a fun yet impactful literacy learning journey for all children. Her mission is deeply personal, born from a desire to empower her own dyslexic daughter and other parents navigating similar paths. She leverages her extensive background in marketing and diverse industries to create engaging educational experiences that connect with children's individual learning styles. This strategic vision is backed by an MBA from the University of Nottingham and recent studies in Neurodiversity in Early Childhood Care at UBC, ensuring every initiative is both creative and evidence-informed

GAN YEE HUAN
Co-founder
Gan Yee Huan is a passionate educator with over a decade of experience in phonics, literacy, and special education. She holds a degree in Child and Family Psychology and is both TESL and TESOL certified. As an HRDC-Accredited Trainer, Gan has trained teachers and guided more than 100 children to become confident readers through structured phonics instruction. She contributes to curriculum development at The Talking Oaks and specializes in equipping teachers with practical strategies to bring structured literacy into their classrooms. Her strength lies in making literacy accessible and enjoyable, blending evidence-based methods with playful, engaging activities.
